HONORARY AIR ASSAULT BADGE
Update as of March 30,2022:
The following information is forwarded from an email by Randal Underhill, Executive Director of the 101st Airborne Division Association dated March 30, 2022.
Greetings:
The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) is pleased to once again honor Vietnam veterans of the 101st Airborne, 101st Air Cavalry and 101st Airborne Division (Air Mobile) with an Honorary Air Assault Certificate. The Screaming Eagles of today recognize that the tactics and techniques that were developed and utilized by the Division's Soldiers in Vietnam, created the foundation for what would become the Air Assault doctrine of today.
The 101st Airborne Division Association was asked to assist with this recognition last year and will again fill the role to accept and screen the applications on behalf of the Division. The application form and a copy of the Veteran's DD214 (SSN Redacted) are all that are asked of the Veterans to apply. The Division realized that time has passed and some veterans may have long ago lost documents for attendance to specific training or schools or there was no specific documentation. The veterans attestation on the form and the DD21 are the only documents required. After we have received and screened the application, veterans will be contacted by the 101st Airborne Division Association staff via the email or telephone number provided by the veteran, to confirm the receipt and approval of their application. Applicants who wish to attend the 101st Airborne Division's ceremony at The Sabalauski Air Assault School, at Fort Campbell, KY on May 26, 2022, are asked to indicate on the application form that they will attend. Those who wish to attend the ceremony at Fort Campbell must have their application received by the 101st Airborne Division Association no later than May 4th to allow for screening and subsequent production of all the certificates. We realize this is a short amount of time but time must be allocated for the printing process and delivery and organization of the certificates. which will be updated by the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) periodically.
There will be an additional opportunity to be presented the certificate in a ceremony held at the 101st Airborne Division Association Annual Reunion held at the Amyway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan, from August 3-6, 2022. Details for attendance to the reunion may be found online at our website www.screamingeagle.org under the events tab. Membership in the 101st Airborne Division Association is not required for reunion attendance, but there is a $101 registration fee for reunion that covers the cost of Hospitality Room for the duration of the event, a Breakfast Buffet and Memorial Dinner on Saturday, August 6, 2022. The reunion attendance is open and encouraged for all Screaming Eagles. Veterans who are unable or do not wish to attend one of the ceremonies will receive the honorarium via U.S. mail following the last ceremony in August. Please contact me if you have issues or concerns.
Very Respectfully,
